The nose initially shows a savoury aroma reminiscent of heirloom tomato relish. This is followed by hues of aniseed and dried porcini mushrooms along with some sour cherry, strawberries, rooibos tea leaf, rose petal and bran. The wine displays the natural tart acidity and frontal tannins of Nebbiolo on the palate, although with a well-rounded and lighter mouth-feel than can sometimes be the case with this varietal. The bright, fresh palate eases off to reveal a classic Nebbiolo varietal character: sour cherry, raspberry and tobacco leaf linger to give the wine brilliant length and persistence.
The wine shows beautiful fruit and floral characters in youth, but will develop well over the next 7 to 10 years and will greatly reward those who resist it’s youthful charm. Our 2024 Semillon is a beautiful pale gold colour. Aromas of cinnamon and dried apricot and orange blossom greet you upon first inspection. There are also nectarine, dusty road and golden delicious notes. The palate shares much the same fruit profile as the nose though now with distinct custard and vanilla pod characteristics. Poised, weighted fruit concentrates the mid-palate, after which the wine broadens out with a rich, almost waxy texture and bright acidity. A citrus and floral spice lingers on the palate long after the last drop. This Semillon will continue to evolve in complexity and richness with age.

Both terroir and treatment are immediately evident in the glass. A resonance of dill, capers, greengage, and wet granite marry on both the nose and palate. Acidity and spice form the backbone, dominating on the palate, while a pithy yet creamy texture rounds out the overall mouthfeel. The textured, juicy palate shows citrus zest, vanilla and apricot. A lingering herbaceous and mineral finish completes the experience. This wine will be enhanced by a food pairing such as shellfish, or a Thai curry accented by ginger and lemongrass.
