LAUGHTER UNDER THE STARS: ALAN COMMITTIE’S COMEDY NIGHT AT STEENBERG
January 8, 2025The festive season arrived in full swing at Steenberg Farm on December 12th and 13th, when families and friends gathered for the estate’s annual Christmas Carols evenings. Held under the stars on the lawns of Tryn Restaurant, the event has become a beloved tradition for many Capetonians, offering a chance to celebrate the season in a warm and welcoming setting.
The evening’s entertainment was led by Kevin Abbott, whose engaging charisma and classic Christmas repertoire brought smiles to faces both young and old. Joining him was Cape Town’s own R&B and funk band, Jeodhouse, who added a lively twist to the night’s festivities. The result was a harmonious blend of carols and contemporary sounds, creating a musical experience that felt both nostalgic and refreshing.
This year, the event also shone a light on community causes, with representatives from the South African Guide Dogs Association and True North sharing stories about their important work. Guests were given the opportunity to support these organizations, embodying the true spirit of giving that defines the season.
Attendees were spoiled for choice when it came to dining. For those seeking a more formal experience, a three-course dinner on Tryn’s Oak Terrace paired with Steenberg wine was the perfect option. Meanwhile, families and groups enjoyed the relaxed vibe of the Lounge on the Lawn area, with picnic boxes brimming with delicious fare prepared by the estate. A festive best-dressed competition added an extra touch of fun, with many attendees donning cheerful holiday attire.
As twinkling lights illuminated the lawn and the music filled the summer air, the Steenberg Christmas Carols offered more than just a concert – it was an evening of connection, celebration, and shared joy. For many, it marked the start of the holiday season, a reminder of the beauty of community and tradition.
